Mission
The Town of Deerfield owns and operates two wastewater treatments plants which serve each of the Town's two villages, South Deerfield and Old Deerfield. The facilities are regulated by both MADEP and the US Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) and operate under discharge permits jointly issued by these agencies.

The Deerfield treatment plants were built in 1971 as a result of the Clean Water Act and have been successfully cleaning up the Town’s wastewater since that time. The Town’s  facilities utilize biologically based treatment systems with no filters and few chemicals. Job duties include laboratory testing, biological analysis, pump and equipment operation, machine maintenance, record keeping, and an understanding of hydraulics, electricity, control systems, infectious diseases, and disinfection practices.

More information can be found at the South Deerfield Wastewater Treatment Plant. In addition, citizens and school groups are welcomed at the plants for tours. Please call or email to line up a time or stop by any time during the regular plant hours listed above.
